Jury recommends life in prison for Stephenson

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19)- A Dearborn County jury has recommended life in prison for a man convicted of murdering an Indiana woman.

Charles Stephenson was found guilty on Monday in the beating death of Leigh Jennings, 67.

On Tuesday, jurors listened to attorneys for both sides make their arguments on what sentence Stephenson should received.

The jury recommended life in prison. Formal sentencing will be at a later date.

IN (FOX19) - Kendal Miller, Switzerland County Tourism executive director and freelance photographer/writer, attended the 100th Anniversary Celebration and Awards Gala of the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana (WPCI). The event was held May 18 at the Hollyhock Hill Restaurant in Indianapolis.

WPCI was formed on Feb. 18, 1913, an organization of women writers, editors, publishers and activists who “saw the need for an organization to represent women’s interested in the corridors of the State Legislature and the columns of newspapers.” Today however, members consist of both women and men, and include professional communications in various media from across the state. The club’s mission remains the same—“to foster professional standards and advance the causes of communicators throughout the state.”

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19)- A Dearborn County jury has convicted a man of beating an Indiana woman to death with a skillet and a pepper grinder.

Charles Stephenson faces life in prison without parole for the murder of Leigh Jennings, 67. The sentencing phase will begin Tuesday.

Closing arguments were held on Monday morning, and the jury reached a verdict late Monday evening.

Jennings' body was found on April 5, 2012 in her Aurora home. Police say Jennings had actually been killed days before, on March 29.

Stephenson is the nephew of Bill and Peggy Stephenson, who were murdered in Boone County in 2011. Their murders remain unsolved, but Stephenson is not a suspect in that case.

VEVAY, IN (FOX19) - Switzerland County Tourism invites the public to “Doodle our Walls” during Vevay Main Street’s “Chalk the Walk” First Friday. The event will take place on Friday, June 7 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Switzerland County Visitors Center at 128 West Main Street in Vevay.

Have you ever wanted to go crazy with a fat marker? Here’s your chance! The Visitor Center invites both the young and the young-at-heart to explore their “inner doodler.”  Help the Center jazz up their walls with your artistic creations.

Youth artists will work on tables while adults are invited to create directly on designated wall space. All masterpieces will be left on display inside the Visitors Center throughout the month of June. Drawings will be monitored and inappropriate renderings will not be tolerated.

Chalk will be available at the Visitors Center for individuals wishing to “Chalk the Walk” in front of the Center.

Air Care called to Dearborn accidental shooting

DEARBORN COUNTY, IN (FOX19)- Air Care has been called to the scene of a
shooting in Dearborn County.

Authorities received reports of an accidental
shooting on Happy Hollow Road just around 9:00 p.m.

The victim's name and condition is unknown at
this time.

Services restored after water main break in Batesville

RIPLEY COUNTY, IN (FOX19)- Crews were called to a water main break in Batesville, Indiana.

It happened around 3 p.m. on Dove Court in the Quail Meadows subdivision.

Water service was down for a couple hours, but has since been restored.

FORT WAYNE, IN (FOX19) - An Indiana State Police Major was recently honored for a milestone 35 years of service.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter presented Major Gary A. Robbins a Departmental award Friday morning.
