Indiana Tech breakfast honors year's best interns, employers

FORT WAYNE, IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Tech Career Center celebrated student interns and their employers at the 5th annual Internship Recognition Breakfast on April 24.

Janet Boston, executive director of Indiana INTERN.net, attended the event and announced the winners of the Intern of the Year, Employer of the Year, and Outstanding Participation awards.

Fifteen students were nominated for Intern of the Year, and the award went to Baily Tom for her internship with OmniSource. Tom is a senior from Monroe, Mich., with a major in business administration-human resources.

Three students received an Honorable Mention certificate for their outstanding work:

Man could get life in prison for murder of IN woman

AURORA, IN (FOX19)- A man accused of murdering an Aurora, Ind. woman could get life in prison without parole.

Charles Robert Stephenson, 58, of Walton, is accused of beating Leigh Jennings to death with a skillet and pepper grinder.

Jennings was found last April in her apartment.

Dearborn County prosecutors have now filed a notice of intent to seek life in prison without parole for Stephenson.

If not life, he faces up to 115 years in prison if convicted on charges of murder and robbery.

Trial is scheduled to begin May 6.

Authorities: Markham's cause of death still unknown

INDIANAPOLIS (FOX19)- Authorities say the remains of a missing Fairfield woman Katelyn Markham were sent to Indianapolis for further examination into the exact cause of death.

Markham was last seen by her fiancee, John Carter, the night of August 13, 2011 at her home on Dorshire Drive in Fairfield. When Carter didn't hear from Markham the next day, he reported her missing. Authorities suspected foul play, but after 20 months, no arrests were ever made in the case.

On April 7, Indiana State Police revealed human skeletal remains were discovered off Big Cedar Road, near Cedar Grove, IN. They were found a by residents walking along the creek looking for scrap metal.

Authorities used dental records to positively identify the remains as Markham.

Indiana State Police say a Forensic Anthropologist in Indianapolis will conduct further examinations and testing, but may take up to six weeks before any new details are released.

RUSH COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close a 3-mile section of U.S. Highway 52 between Rushville and New Salem on Monday, April 29 for a $1.3 million Greenfield District bridge project involving removal and replacement of three drainage structures.

Severe Weather traning class being held in Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Dearborn County Emergency Management is hosting a Severe Weather Spotter training class on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30pm.

The class is being taught by the National Weather service and will be held at the Dearborn County Emergency Management, emergency operating center located on W. High Street.

Country music group SHENANDOAH comes to Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Dearborn Highlands Arts Council will welcome country music great Shenandoah to Lawrenceburg, IN for one show only at 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 20th in the Lawrenceburg High School Auditorium, Tiger Blvd., Lawrenceburg.

Bicentennial wine tasting at Switzerland County Visitors Center, May 3

SWITZERLAND COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - Tom and Mary Jane Demaree of The Ridge Winery will present a free wine tasting of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial wine at the Switzerland County Visitors Center during the May First Friday. The event will take place on May 3 from 6-9pm.

The Demarees’ have produced a sweet red grape blend table wine in celebration of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial. The wine is presented in a cobalt blue bottle and features a label designed by artist Donna Weaver.

A Switzerland County Indiana Artisan, Donna Weaver is also a sculptor-engraver who worked for the U.S. Mint. She designed and sculpted many state quarters, commemorative coins and gold medals. Having retired in 2006 she continues to participate in the Mint’s Artistic Infusion program and designs for specific coinage projects.
