Investigator Director recognized for contributions to the Dearborn community

DEARBORN COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - An investigator director with the Dearborn County Speciial Crimes Unit was recently recognized for making a difference in the community through law enforcement.

Thomas McKay was given the honor by the Dearborn County Citizens Against Subastance Abuse.

The Dearborn County Citizens Against Subastance Abuse is an organization through which the community can identify, plan, and implement efforts to address the problems of substance abuse and dependency.

Indiana State Police awarded bronze medal from Special Olympics

IN (FOX19) -  Indiana State Police Superintendent, Douglas Carter accepted a certificate on behalf of the Indiana State Police recognizing the Department as a Bronze Medal Law Enforcement Torch Run Agency.

An agency is recognized as a Bronze Medal Torch Run Agency for raising between $5,000 and 9,999 in donations toward Special Olympics Indiana.

This presentation was made in recognition of funds raised by the Indiana State Police in 2012. The presentation was made by Stephanie Stewart, Manager of Community Partnerships Law Enforcement Torch Run and Paul Philhower, a 26 year Indiana Special Olympics Athlete. Miss Stewart commented, “We are also very excited to have the Superintendent on board with the growing of the relationship between Special Olympics Indiana and the Indiana State Police!

SAVE THE DATE: Arts Alive! An Arts Fair

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Organized entirely by volunteers of the Dearborn Highlands Arts Council, the Arts Alive! Arts Fair is a place to relax, explore, and take in the works of painters, ceramicists, sculptors and other local artisans.

“Join us for the Arts Alive! Arts Fair on Saturday, October 12” said Dan Toon, Arts Alive! chair, “Agner Hall in the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds will be open from 10 am to 4 pm and will include all your favorite artists.”  Local and regional artists will perform.  The booth area will have 40+ local and regional artists displaying and selling their works.  Expect to see paintings, pottery, jewelry, fabric arts, photography and much more.  There will be food available. Free admission.

The Arts Alive! Arts Fair offers something else, as well--a chance for residents and visitors to come together, connect or reconnect, and celebrate the talent in our midst.

(FOX19) - Tri State girl scout troops are preparing to set up shop at your local grocery stores, retail businesses and banks.

Cookie booth sales begin on Friday, February 15.

Customers who buy five packages of cookies will receive a coupon and have the opportunity to enter a contest on our website to win five cases of Girl Scout cookies. The QR Code on the coupon will take customers to correct spot online. The contest ends Thursday, March 21.

Local organization to salute next generation of community leaders

Local organization to salute next generation of community leaders

(FOX19) - A local young professionals organization is looking for the next generation of community leaders.

For the last four years, Legacy leadership group has hosted the Next Generation Leader Awards. The awards are given to salute the region’s young professionals ages 21-40 for accomplishments in their professional field and contribution to the community.

Legacy is asking everyone in the community to nominate YP’s they think deserves this award.

Three finalists and a winner will be chosen in each of the ten categories. The categories can be seen at http://www.legacyleadership.org/about/ngla-awards/categories/.

Artists sought for 2013 Creative Spaces Rural Places Art Tour

IN (FOX19) - Artists and craftspersons in Switzerland and Ohio Counties are invited to register for the 6th annual Creative Spaces Rural Places Studio Art Tour. Members of Dearborn County's Southeastern Indiana Art Guild are also encouraged to participate, with space available at Heritage Hall in Rising Sun. This year’s event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, 2013 across Switzerland and Ohio Counties.

Artists working in all mediums are encouraged to apply. The public is invited to travel around both counties and visit participants in home studios, galleries and local businesses during the two-day event. Artists are encouraged to demonstrate their techniques and can have items available for sale.

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - For the eighth consecutive year, IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer each guest a free short stack of its famous buttermilk pancakes on National Pancake Day in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities.

For every short stack of buttermilk pancakes served on National Pancake Day, IHOP guests are invited to make a voluntary donation to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Donations made at IHOPs in the Cincinnati area will benefit the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

IHOP hopes to raise $3 million this year, with a goal to bring the total amount of funds raised to more than $13 million.
