"Doodle our Walls" in Switzerland County (IN) for Vevay First Friday, June 7

VEVAY, IN (FOX19) - Switzerland County Tourism invites the public to “Doodle our Walls” during Vevay Main Street’s “Chalk the Walk” First Friday. The event will take place on Friday, June 7 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Switzerland County Visitors Center at 128 West Main Street in Vevay.

Have you ever wanted to go crazy with a fat marker? Here’s your chance! The Visitor Center invites both the young and the young-at-heart to explore their “inner doodler.”  Help the Center jazz up their walls with your artistic creations.

Youth artists will work on tables while adults are invited to create directly on designated wall space. All masterpieces will be left on display inside the Visitors Center throughout the month of June. Drawings will be monitored and inappropriate renderings will not be tolerated.

Chalk will be available at the Visitors Center for individuals wishing to “Chalk the Walk” in front of the Center.

Hillforest Victorian House Museum Presents “A Century of Brides”

AURORA, IN (FOX19) - Hillforest’s current exhibit is entitled “A Century of Brides” which features bridal gowns dating from 1850-1950.

The entire house is set in a wedding theme with flowers, cake, photographs, and wedding memorabilia throughout.  Twenty antique and vintage dresses are featured, some being from the museum’s private collection, while others are on loan from other museums and private owners.

Hillforest Victorian House Museum, 213 Fifth Street, Aurora, was built for industrialist and financier Thomas Gaff and his family who resided there from 1855 and 1891.

Vevay-Switzerland County (IN) Bicentennial welcomes State Bicentennial commission

VEVAY, IN (FOX19)  - The Vevay-Switzerland County Indiana Bicentennial committee attended a meeting with Chris Jensen, Executive Director of the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Commission and Jim Corridan, State Archivist. The group met at the Switzerland County Visitors Center in Vevay on May 8, 2013.

The Vevay-Switzerland County committee shared information on the events leading up to and throughout the October 4-13, 2013 county Bicentennial. Jensen and Corridan informed members about opportunities and plans for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial. Officials from the state hope that all Indiana counties will take on a local project in celebration of the 2016 statewide event. They will also help promote the Vevay-Switzerland Bicentennial at the state level.

CONNERSVILLE, IN (FOX19) - – In conjunction with National Train Day on May 11 and Mother’s Day on May 12, The Whitewater Valley Railroad will host Dean Dorrell as Mr. Abraham Lincoln and local music group Old Truck Revival.

In celebration of National Train Day on May 11, Abraham Lincoln will be riding the Whitewater Valley Railroad between Connersville and Historic Metamora. President Abraham Lincoln, in July of 1862, signed the Pacific Railroad Bill that put the federal government behind the building of the Transcontinental Railroad project. The Transcontinental Railroad was completed on May 10, 1869. Travel through time on The Statesman as you spend the day with the 16th President Abraham Lincoln on a relaxing train excursion through the Whitewater Valley. Mr. Lincoln will be riding along as you travel along remnants of the Whitewater Canal to the historic town of Metamora.

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - The Dearborn Highlands Arts Council invites you to join us for an afternoon of traditional Bluegrass music with Feller & Hill, on Saturday, April 27, at 2:00 pm in the Depot Room, Lawrenceburg Public Library.

Tom Feller and Chris Hill were born across the Ohio River from each other - Tom in southern Indiana and Chris in northern Kentucky. Both have performed with bands from bluegrass-rich areas of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia - Tom with Jerry Williamson & Redwing,

Country music group SHENANDOAH comes to Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Dearborn Highlands Arts Council will welcome country music great Shenandoah to Lawrenceburg, IN for one show only at 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 20th in the Lawrenceburg High School Auditorium, Tiger Blvd., Lawrenceburg. 

Tickets are $20, with discounts available for Arts Council members.  This performance in the Dearborn Highlands Arts Council Performing Arts Series is made possible by a grant from the Dearborn Community Foundation's City of Lawrenceburg Community Grant Program along with grants from other generous supporters.

Bicentennial wine tasting at Switzerland County Visitors Center, May 3

SWITZERLAND COUNTY, IN (FOX19)  - Tom and Mary Jane Demaree of The Ridge Winery will present a free wine tasting of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial wine at the Switzerland County Visitors Center during the May First Friday. The event will take place on May 3 from 6-9pm.

The Demarees’ have produced a sweet red grape blend table wine in celebration of the Vevay-Switzerland County Bicentennial. The wine is presented in a cobalt blue bottle and features a label designed by artist Donna Weaver. 

A Switzerland County Indiana Artisan, Donna Weaver is also a sculptor-engraver who worked for the U.S. Mint. She designed and sculpted many state quarters, commemorative coins and gold medals. Having retired in 2006 she continues to participate in the Mint’s Artistic Infusion program and designs for specific coinage projects.
