DEARBORN CO. (FOX19) -- Indiana State Police arrested a West Virginia truck driver Thursday morning along Interstate 74 and charged him with drunk driving.
A state police motor carrier inspector was checking semi trucks were weight and safety compliance at the West Harrison weigh station on I-74 at the Indiana/Ohio state line when a 62-year-old George Stephenson of Charleston, W.Va., crossed the scales pulling a flatbed trailer. The inspector noticed Stephenson was having trouble parking the vehicle on the scale.
After talking to the driver, the officer smelled alcohol on Stephenson's breath. Police found a cooler with beer and vodka inside Stephenson's truck which police said is a violation of federal motor carrier safety regulations.
Police said Stephenson had a blood alcohol content of 0.09 percent. The state limit is 0.08 percent.
