Sheriff's deputy injured after tackling escaping prisoner

VEVAY, IN (FOX19) - A Switzerland County Sheriff's Deputy was airlifted to a hospital after tackling a prisoner who was trying to escape.

The incident happened around noon on Friday as Deputy Eddie McClellan was taking two prisoners from the courthouse to the jail directly across the street.

Tracy Inman attempted to flee and Deputy McClellan tackled her to the ground. The male prisoner stood by and did not try to take off.  Deputy McClellan suffered a severe break of both of the bones in his lower leg.

He was flown to University of Cincinnati Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both Inman and the male prisoner remained in custody and have returned to the Switzerland County Jail without further incident.

Tracey Inman of Cincinnati is being held on $20,000 cash only bond. She was charged with Escape and Battery against a law enforcement officer.
