Restriction Moratorium for Memorial Day in Southeast Indiana

IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Department of Transportation is declaring a workplace moratorium over the Memorial Day weekend to provide increased safety and better mobility for the motoring public. 

Beginning at noon Friday, May 24, lane closures and restrictions on state highways and interstates will be lifted—wherever possible—to maximize traffic flow over the holiday period.  Resumption of restrictions will take place Tuesday morning, May 28.

Some closures and lane restrictions at construction sites must remain in effect.  They are:

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY

  • State Road 58—culvert replacement 6.5 miles east of S.R. 135

CRAWFORD COUNTY

  • State Road 62—bridge repair 2.4 miles east of S.R. 66

JEFFERSON COUNTY

  • Milton-Madison Bridge/U.S. Highway 421—no truck traffic, 3 ton weight limit

State Road 229 to close in Ripley County for bridge replacement

BATESVILLE, IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced this week  that beginning Thursday, March 21, State Road 229 in Ripley County will temporarily close.

The road will be closed between S.R. 48 and S.R. 46 near Batesville in Ripley County.  Sunesis Construction of Ohio was awarded the half-million dollar bridge replacement project over Laughery Creek. 

The roadway is expected to reopen to traffic in August, 2013.

During the closure, no through vehicle traffic will be allowed, however local residents will have access to the point of closure. Official Detour: S.R. 48, S.R. 129, & S.R. 46

State Road 56 set to open in Switzerland County

State Road 56 set to open in Switzerland County

VEVAY, IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists that State Road 56 (S.R. 56) in Switzerland County is scheduled to open Friday afternoon, December 21.  Force Construction will remove barricades and open S.R. 56, located 0.6 mile north of S.R. 156.

The $6.3 million slide correction and realignment project is significantly completed on S.R. 56.  This project enhances the overall safety of the roadway and opening much earlier than the original scheduled date of June, 2013.  The improvements feature 12 foot driving lanes, 2 foot shoulders, drainage and guardrail.  Seed and sod work will take place in the spring of 2013 to wrap up this project. 

Flagging operations may be required to restrict traffic during this period.

GREENDALE, IN (FOX19)  - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced this week that East Eads Parkway (U.S 50) will be temporarily closed between the intersections of Rudolph Way and Hollywood Blvd. /Speedway Drive. 

The 15 minute closure will take effect Thursday, November 8 beginning at 9:00 a.m., weather permitting.

INDOT crews will close the section of U.S. 50 briefly to remove an existing sign span/cable line stretching overhead.  In addition, crews will also remove the attached posts, temporarily restricting travel to one lane in each direction.  Flagging crews will maintain traffic control throughout the operation.  This portion of the work is expected to be completed by late afternoon.  In case of inclement weather, work will be rescheduled on the following day.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone.

Scheduled I-74 pavement repair near Shelbyville

IN (FOX19) - Anyone with plans to travel along Interstate 74 near Shelbyville should be aware of some planned road construction.

Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance workers will repair a section of failing pavement located in the left lane of eastbound Interstate 74 at the 113.75 mile marker over the weekend. This requires closing the left eastbound lane—just east of State Road 9 at Shelbyville—between mile markers 113.0 and 114.5 starting at 4am Saturday.

Crews will saw cut and remove the slab of failing pavement from the eastbound “passing lane”—and pour a full-depth concrete patch in its place.  Once poured, the new concrete must set up and cure before traffic can be allowed on it. 

INDOT anticipates reopening the left eastbound I-74 lane before noon on Sunday.

IN (FOX19) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is reminding Hoosiers that all signs are prohibited from Federal and State highway rights-of-way, as per Indiana Code 9-21-4-6.  INDOT personnel are empowered by state law to remove unauthorized signs, including real estate, advertising and political signage, within the state right-of-way.
